This month’s After the Bell guest teacher is Megan Bachman, a TK through sixth grade art teacher at Van Meter. Now in her eighth year of teaching, Mrs. Bachman is used to grading the kiddos’ work. This time, she’s here to grade OUR weekly masterpieces!
Mrs. Bachman tried all four of Pepp’s October weekly pizza specials, plus a surprise bonus on Halloween week: Boo Bread. We hope you all have a spooky good October! Here’s how the specials scored:

We kicked things off with the Philly Cheesesteak, a pizza inspired by the classic sandwich.
Mrs. Bachman thought the meat and cheese made a strong combination, though she was looking for a little more flavor to really make it stand out.
“I feel like this is a really good flavor combination. The meat and the cheese definitely work well together.”
She gave it a solid A- to start the lineup.

Mrs. Bachman wanted more of a pop of flavor, and she definitely found it with the Hawaiian Sweet Fire.
The mango habanero, jalapeños and pineapple brought plenty of sweet and spicy flavor, with Mrs. Bachman loving the balance between the two.
“The mango habanero is so good. I really love the jalapeños and pineapple too. They give it a nice good balance of sweet and spicy.”

For the third weekly special, Mrs. Bachman went with a classic: the Meatball Pizza.
She was immediately impressed by the size of her slice, then dug into the Italian-inspired combination.
“I feel like it’s your classic Italian, what you would look for in a pizza, but the meatballs definitely add to the flavor.”
She even described it as having a “whole pizza spaghetti combo” feel, making this one a great pick for fans of classic Italian flavors.

Then came El Diablo, and Mrs. Bachman was ready to see what all the hot honey hype was about.
The sweetness came through first, followed by a little heat that kicked in afterward.
“It’s definitely sweet with the honey coming through. I feel like the heat hits you a little bit after.”
The sweet-and-spicy combination earned an A-, with Mrs. Bachman calling it a good one for anyone who likes a little spice.

For spooky season, we threw in a little bonus on Halloween week: Boo Bread!
With a buttery base, chocolate drizzle, homemade icing and crumbled Halloween Oreos, it’s basically a cookies-and-cream dream in Boo Bread form.
“Boo bread, sounds amazing. You cannot go wrong with a dessert.”
And after trying it, she let us all know that, “That’s a winner, for sure.”
So be sure to grab your Boo Bread the week of October 26 to celebrate a spooky but delicious Halloween!

After grading all four weekly pizza specials, Mrs. Bachman gave her Gold Star to the Hawaiian Sweet Fire.
“Definitely exceeded expectations.”
The combination of mango habanero, jalapeños and pineapple delivered the sweet-and-spicy flavor she was looking for, making it her favorite of October’s weekly specials.
